    Retained Placenta

One of my group class students is having her third baby, and is apprehensive about the birth because during both of her previous births she had problems because of a retained placenta.

Aside from the general benefits of Yoga (she practiced Antenatal Yoga throughout both pregnancies), does anyone have specific recommendations for Yoga practices that may reduce the possibility of a retained placenta? My own thoughts are that it's all going to help, especially meditations to reduce anxiety, but I'm wondering if there's anything more specific?

    Thanks,

    Scott

    Hi Scott,

Heart openning things that will allow her to be fully present in her love for her just born baby will be helpful.  Practically it is important, if possible, for her to have her baby skin to skin immediately after birth.   The meditation, relaxation and conscious connecting with her baby antenataly will all be helpful.

Sorry that's not more specific as you requested, but I hope it is helpful.

P.S. The love helps the hormone oxytocin to flow well which helps the contraction of the uterus and expultion of the placenta.

Thanks Afron, I pretty much thought that this would be the direction of any help. Apparently this problem comes from her having uterine fibroids, so there's a big chance this problem will return. I will pass on your good advice though, and maybe things iwll go well.

    Thanks,

    Scott
