Hello,
I suggest firstly any spinal twists. These can be done sitting on the toilet and rotating ones body round to each side, on the exhalation, and breathing there for as long as one wishes.
A very relaxing spinal twist can be done on the floor too, lying briefly on ones back, with bent knees and feet on the floor, letting the legs drop to one side and the head turning to the opposite side. The arms are outstretched along the ground. Do these daily as part of a yoga routine.
Secondly I would recommend abdominal massage. Looking down at ones belly you draw the movements in a clockwise direction up the right across and down the left. This runs along the line of the large colon. Taking time to press and release into any tender or tight areas.
Being an Aromatherapist I would also suggest using black pepper, and any citrus oil such as mandarin, orange or lemon to help aid digestion. Add three drops in total to a tea spoonful of oil or cream and massage at least 3x a week.
Lastly I would recommend contracting and relaxing the abdominal muscles in a sort of rolling movement. This can be combined with the pelvic floor muscles too.
Pay attention also to overall relaxing the mind and body together and asking the question ‘Am I holding onto anything? How can I better let go of issues and things that no longer serve me well?’
One more thing – the tailbone if tight can restrict bowel movements, try massaging this and spending time rolling on the gym ball.
Good luck to her and you.
All the best
Amy Ellis
