    phenomena during labour

Hi everyone, to share with you all and see if anybody else had a similar experience. My friend had a home labour. After 15 hrs she started to be aware of a strange thing happening. Just a few seconds before the surge, the baby would kick. When she realised the regularity of it she tuned much better with the contraction coming. It was brilliant as she still had 10 hours to go. She had the baby without any gas or anything and she thinks that this synchronicity with the baby made it possible. kim

To me this is what natural birthing is all about.  Also where the practice of yoga in pregnancy helps the woman to become so aware of themselves and their baby being born.  Woman do reach a point where they "look/turn inward to themselves" just before birthing one of the signs that it is all about to happen.  Many are never aware of it happening. How amazing this lady is so in touch with herself.  I love this posting. Thank you for sharing it.  It really makes reminds me of the value of our work.

     Hi Kim,

What a clever/sensitive baby! but probably many babies send signs that their mums do not perceive because they may not be so regular as these pre-contraction kicks. I believe that the better a mother to be has prepared during pregnancy with breathing and sound practices, with regular experience of relaxation together with her baby, the more common responses like this could get reported.  During pregnancy yoga classes we need to encourage women more and more to approach their births in partnership with their babies, as a real team.  Then the true synchronicity that your friend comments on becomes possible, the baby feels supported and also respected in his or her own rhythms during this very individual journey into the world that he or she handles in a unique style, partly determined by anatomy and physiology but also partly by the quality of the foetal environment and of loving communication. Thank you so much for sharing your friend's experience and please convey to her how her awareness is inspiring to us all.

    Francoise.
