Dear fellow yoga teachers
This is not just an appeal for donations but an attempt to raise awareness of the Help Dan campaign.
My cousin, Dan Eley, who's only 32, has spent years helping children on the streets of South America. He broke his neck in a swimming accident on New Year’s Day and is now paralysed from the neck down in a Columbian hospital. We need to raise £90,000 to airlift him home as his insurance won't cover it.
There is already an incredible worldwide movement to bring Dan home. Our family set up a Facebook page called 'Help Dan' and have raised more than £70,000 in just 12 days – most of the donations coming from people who have never met Dan but have heard how incredible he is.
This is amazing but we still need more and we're finding that the more people know about Dan, the more donations we get. If you're on Facebook, please join the Help Dan group and let all your friends know. Maybe send him a message of support - his sister, Bridget, who's with him in Columbia, yesterday posted a photo of Dan looking at the Facebook messages from his hospital bed and he's even managing a smile! Or you can make a donation at www.justgiving.com/Casa-Alianza-Emergency. For anyone who lives in Norfolk, I am organising a Help Dan Bring and Buy Baby and Toddler Sale at the Oasis, Pound Lane, Thorpe St Andrew, Norwich from 1.30-4.30pm on Saturday 6 February. I've enlisted the help of all my yoga mums - from pregnancy to postnatal to baby to active baby to toddler! - and have been overwhelmed by the response. Please come if you live locally - bring clean, good quality baby and toddler toys, equipment and clothes you would like to donate, and homemade cakes, and we will sell it on, all of the proceeds going to Dan. There will be refreshments, massage, face painting and much more.
Any questions, please contact me at info@babyfit.me.uk or 07798 690451
If you do nothing else, please take a moment to hold Dan in the light. Thank you.
