Dear All
I just wanted to share some observations with everyone about the use of Rebozo.
Back in October I attended a weekend course with Francoise where she showed us how to use a shawl to gently wiggle or shake a woman's pelvis to reposition a posterior baby, based on the Mexican technique of Rebozo. I have been using this technique in my classes for about six months as part of pair work but also sometimes giving an overdue woman a bit of a 'wobble' at the end of class. I have also been encouraging overdue women to use a 'tail shaking' release on their knees while leaning slightly forward on a stool/chair.
Recently I have started to notice that when a woman is very close to going into labour this 'wobbling' seems to release something very deep, I am not sure if it is physical or emotional or perhaps both but it is clear to see on their faces and in their bodies when they really give themselves up to it. These women usually go home after class and go into labour, experiencing quick straightforward labours . Similarly women who have been told their babies are posterior who use the tail shaking during labour also seem to get similar results.
I am still thinking about how best to use the practise and more importantly when not to, one immediate thought is that if a baby is breech or has its hand near its head there could be a risk of encouraging it deeper into the pelvis so i am not sure it would be the right thing for everyone.
I wondered if anyone else has had similar experience of using Rebozo - I would love to hear thoughts on this.
