I grew up in the 60s when yoga was still quite an unusual sport to practice but i loved the wholeness it helped me feel so i joined my local class, where i practiced for about 4 years before marrying and moving away from yoga. After my first son was born i became involved with early educatin for pre-schoolers and have been involved in this field ever-since (about 25 years). I ran a pre-school in Dulwich Village, London for 4 years before moving to Kent where i began training as a Pre-school Learning Alliance Tutor. Six months later I fell pregnant with my youngest son who was born with a very rare Chromosone condition, as he grew and we began to realise the enormity of his problems i became very involved with a local parents group for children with complex disabilities which helped my isolation and so my career evolved into the specialist area of children with disabilities and complex health care needs. My life experiences meant that i developed a breadth of new specilast skills that i wanted to put to use so i joined the Medway Portage Service as their Sensory Development Co-ordinator. I have had this role for 8 years now and have developed the role alongside my colleagues in health, mainly occupational therapy and physiotherapy; however i also draw on the expertise of speech and language and dieticians to benefit families and children like my own. Apart from my early years qualifications I hold a certificate in adult Ed, a cert in councelling and of course my baby massage, Anatomy and Physiology as well as baby yoga qualifications. I can draw on my experience as Joe's mummy, he has taught me how to re-place gastrostomy buttons, give injectins, manage oxygen and suction, perfom physiotherapy to maintain suppleness, how to manage aspiration and reflux and how to communicate in a meaningful and purposeful way with people who have profound learning disabilities - he's a wonderful young man who is treasured.
